Audition Requirements/Notes: PLEASE READ

You register for your audition by clicking on the “Order Now” button, then click on “Get Tickets” and complete the order information. Once you complete the order, you will receive an email confirmation and a link to a Google Form to complete additional information, upload your headshot/resume, etc. 

Bring a hard copy of your headshot and resume if available.  We are strongly encouraging all ethnicities and body types of women facing actresses. 

WOMEN 

• Please prepare two contrasting 16-32 bar pieces from a style similar to the show. One of those pieces should show off your head voice. 

• If you are interested in Carla, Sarraghina, or Luisa, we encourage you to use a song that shows off your belt/strong mix. 

• Depending on time, you may also be asked to sing a cutting from the show.  These can be found in the AUDITION MATERIALS LINK above

The role of GUIDO has been cast. 

Character Breakdowns

NINE examines through the eyes of a famous film director the meaning of art, the sacrifices needed, and the cost both personal and professional. This production will focus on the fever dream nature of Guido examining his life in a Brechtian style and giving the women in the musical much more agency than traditionally presented.  These characters confront Guido in a way that challenges everything that has gone into making him the genius that he is. 

[LUISA CONTINI] she/her, late 30s-early 40s. Guido’s wife. Much stronger than she’s given credit for. A former actress, well put together, intelligent, and chic. Although she has enjoyed being married to a famous man, she is coming to terms within herself at what it has cost her. Must be comfortable with staged intimacy (i.e., kissing, hugging). Strong mezzo.

[CARLA ALBANESE] she/her, 40’s. Guido's mistress. A vulnerable if desperate woman who sees her sexual power waning. Must be comfortable with staged intimacy (i.e., kissing, hugging). A strong singer/dancer. Soprano with a strong belt.

[CLAUDIA NARDI] she/her, late 20’s-mid 30s. The star of Guido’s films and his muse. Beautiful, sophisticated and cosmopolitan. Guido used to inspire her but now she is hungry to grow as an artist on her own. Must be comfortable with staged intimacy (i.e., kissing, hugging). Soprano.

[GUIDO'S MOTHER] she/her, late 40s-70s. Guido’s mother. An elegant, compassionate, graceful, if eccentric, woman with great strength and deep conviction to the church.  A strong singer. Legit Soprano.

[LILIANE LA FLEUR] she/her, late 40s-60s. Guido's demanding impatient French producer. Former star of the Folies Bergere. A diva and cunning businesswoman who doesn’t put up with anything and not afraid to get underhanded if needed. If you have a strong French accent, please use it in your audition.  If not, don’t stress as a dialect coach is part of the production team.  Strong belter.

[LINA DARLING] she/her, late 30s-50s. Liliane La Fleur's mysterious accomplice. A sinister figure who represents the darker side of getting movies made. Has no trouble ending careers or lives if necessary.  Strong ensemble singer.

[STEPHANIE NECROPHORUS] she/her, 30s-50s. A harsh and cynical film critic, who is not a fan of Guido’s and will shout it to anyone who will listen.  The tension between she and Guido is palpable as he knows she is right! She is the voice of art in today’s society.  Alto.

[OUR LADY OF THE SPA] she/her, no specific age.  She is part Greek Chorus, part statue come to life, part Guido’s perfect woman, part Casandra. She is often the way in for the audience as they question what is real and what is memory.  Mezzo with an ethereal quality to the approach to the music/material. 

[SARRAGHINA] she/her, 40s-50s. A voluptuous prostitute who introduces young Guido to the carnal ways of the world. She is nurturing, a bit off color, not afraid to feel the earth between her toes and is the only person in Guido’s life who is completely honest with him.  They have a trusting bond.  Must be comfortable with staged intimacy (i.e., kissing, hugging). Alto belter.

[YOUNG GUIDO] he/him, 9. He is a wide-eyed youth learning about the world from Sarraghina.  Afraid of disappointing his mother and God.  He is Guido’s inner child. Actor will get safely staged slapped in one scene.  Strong boy soprano with unchanged voice.

[YOUNG BOYS] he/him, 9. Guido’s school friends.  Looking for 4 actors who may also cover Young Guido. Open to casting kids of any gender, although they will be presented as young schoolboys.  Strong soprano with unchanged voices. 

[ENSEMBLE WOMEN] – Female presenting. Varied ages and body types.  They populate the dreamscape of Guido’s life playing a myriad of roles from chambermaids, the pope, nuns, prostitutes, can-can dancers and past lovers.  These characters are the glue that holds NINE together and will be on stage most of this production.  Strong singers and dancers needed. The characters of Olga, Diana, Maria, Annabella, Juliette, Renata, Mama Maddelena, and Reporters will be played by the ensemble.

Show Dates

October 18, 19, & 24-27

• There will be no performance on October 20.

• Load-in and tech week will commence on October 11.

• Invited Dress will be on October 17.
