ABOUT THE SHOW:
"Left quad! Right quad! Lunge!"
From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, a high school girls’ indoor soccer team- The Wolves- warms up. As the teammates prepare in sync, a symphony of overlapping dialogue spills out their innermost thoughts, ranging from the importance of next week's game to the toxic trap of body image to... Martin Luther King Jr. and genocide.
A sold-out Off-Broadway smash, the 2017 Pulitzer Prize finalist The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe is a portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls.
ROLES AVAILABLE:
Seeking Female/Female-Identifying performers for the following roles:
● #00 – Goalie
○ The team’s goalie. She is intense, tightly wound, and rarely speaks. Isolated from the group, she often warms up alone. There is a depth of anxiety and vulnerability beneath her silence.
● #2 – Defender
○ A bit of a follower, trying hard to be liked. Naive but sweet. She's close friends with #8. Often cheerful and eager to be part of the conversation, even if she doesn’t always understand it.
● #7 – Midfield
○ Seen as a “mean girl.” Blunt, confrontational, and sometimes cruel, but also funny and charismatic.
● #8 – Midfield
○ The class clown and peacemaker. She’s goofy, energetic, and loves to make others laugh. Best friends with #2.
● #11 – Striker
○ Intelligent, thoughtful, and passionate. She often takes the moral high ground and engages in serious conversation. A natural leader with a strong sense of justice.
● #13 – Midfield
○ Sarcastic and wise-cracking. Keeps her emotions close to the chest and uses humor to deflect. She’s not as assertive as #7 but can hold her own. Observant and clever.
● #14 – Striker
○ Outgoing and brash. She speaks without a filter and sometimes says inappropriate things. She’s opinionated and confident, though not always aware of others’ feelings.
● #25 – Captain / Center Midfield
○ The team captain. Organized, responsible, and authoritative. Tries to keep the team focused and on task, though she can be rigid. She means well and is respected, though she sometimes feels disconnected from the group socially.
● #46 – New Girl
○ The mysterious new team member. Homeschooled and well-traveled, she’s a bit of an outsider and doesn’t always understand social cues. She becomes an unexpected catalyst for change within the group.
● Soccer Mom
○ The mother of one of the girls on the team. She appears only once, at the end of the play, delivering a raw and emotional monologue that deals with grief and loss.
